The Hounds Of Finley River
Finley River Chief was responsible for much of the excitement and growth for the breed. There are other great strains that also helped in the creation of this great breed, but in his day Finley River Chief was the gold standard of top reproducers. His DNA still runs so strong through a lot of hounds of the day. When you go back far enough you will see that the name of Chief or another name of the Finley River strain comes up a number of times in so many of the top hounds of the day. This section will have pictures and ads of the dogs of the Finley River Strain.

Finley River Dan Hounds
Many consider Mear's Finley River Dan to be the best reproducing son of Finley River Chief. Lonnie Mear's has done a great job of breeding and promoting what many call the Finley River Dan Strain of Hounds.Mear's Finley River Dan is a son of Finley River Chief. So even though many may call it the Finley River Dan Strain, like Spring Creek Rock, it is actually Finley River Chief Strain of Hounds.

Mack Twain
There are numerous strains in the Treeing Walker Breed. One of the strains that produced what real coonhunters would call real coonhounds was MACK TWAIN! Mack Twain was one of the top dogs of his day. Still if you go back far enough you will find Mack Twain in some of the better hounds. The strain was introduced to the public a great deal by John Cason who also owned Nite Ch. California Mack. California Mack and a son of Calif. Mack, Nite Ch. California Mack Twain Jr. were responsible for producing many track driving, cold nose, very hard tree dogs that are what the MACK TWAIN strain is known for. Dick Herberger's best female Nite Ch. Hershberger's Texas Babe was a grand daugther of Mack Twain.

The Hounds Of House
Very rarely does one female hound have as big of impact on a breed as did the Grand Ole Female HOUSE'S QUEEN.Unlike Males who have the chance to produce hundreds or even thousands of offspring, the female is very limited. When you talk about the House Strain, the fountain head of that strain is House's Queen. This section will have ads and pictures of hounds that are considered the House Strain of Treeing Walkers.

Sons and Daughters Of House's Queen

Very rarely does one female hound have as big of impact on a breed as did the Grand Ole Female HOUSE'S QUEEN.Unlike Males who have the chance to produce hundreds or even thousands of offspring, the female is very limited. When you talk about the House Strain, the fountain head of that strain is House's Queen. One of the females to have a huge impact on the Treeing Walker Breed is House's Queen. She may have had more of an impact then any other female in the breeds history. Her impact could also be measured with any of the stud dogs of the past or present.House's Queen was mated to three different stud dogs. House's Elmer, Johnson's Banjo, and Merchant's Banjo II.This thread here will just have pictures of the hounds of those crosses. When it is finished I believe most will be impressed. It may take some time to get all of the pictures together and put up but it will happen. It only seems right to start with the 3 hounds that most would agree are the most famous from the different matings. But there are a lot more and what their winning records are in the hunts are impressive.

Sailor Boy or Hershberger Strain (Yadkin River)
In 1961 a dog won the ACHA world hunt that introduced another strain to the treeing walker world. Nite Ch. Stan's Sailor Boy was 1961 ACHA World Champion. Then in 1964 a son of Sailor Boy, Nite Ch. Stan's Sailor Jr. won the 1964 ACHA World Championship. Sailor Boy was sired by Hershberger's Spot Jr. and his dam was Hershberger's Kansas Rose who was out of Hershberger's Little Butch. As we search a lot of these great hounds one of the common threads we find in many of them is Hershberger's Spot Jr. or his son Ch. Nite Ch. Hershberger's Okla. Spot. Maybe in fairness instead of calling it the SAILOR strain or SAILOR BOY strain it should be called HERSHBERGER. Doing that could take away from identifying what strain you are talking about correctly. Dick Hershberger had a number of hounds in his day that weren't related to Spot Jr. So to correctly indentify the strain we will continue calling it the SAILOR or SAILOR BOY Line.If you find dogs that go back to 1964 ACHA World Champion Stan's Sailor Jr., 1961 ACHA World Champion Stan's Sailor Boy, Grand Nite Ch. Ball's Hickory Nut Harry, Dual Grand Ch. Merchan'ts Bawling Barney, Grand Nite Ch. Norman's Coon Stopper, Dual Grand Ch. House's Lipper, Grand Nite Ch. Nocturnal Nailor, Ch. Grand Nite Ch. Rock River Sackett Jr., the one common thread that ties them all together is the bloodlines of Hershberger's Spot Jr. or his son Ch. Nite Ch. Hershberger's Okla. Spot. Stan's Sailor Boy and Hershberger's Okla. Spot were half brothers both being out of Hershberger's Spot Jr.Many today talk of the Yadkin River Strain. It is a combination of a number of strains but could easily be classified as more Sailor Boy Strain then any other.
