Past Stud Dogs
Don,
I believe from our past correspondence, you mentioned that you had bred some of your females to some of the great Treeing Walker studs of the past.
Were you able to go hunting with any of them before having your females bred? If so, I think it would be interesting to read your thoughts and memories of these dogs. Were any of them really outstanding?
I believe you bred to Beanblossom Buck at one time?
Any thoughts or memories that stand out?

Beanblossom Buck, Gann's Finisher, Swinney's Diamond Jim, Monroe's Finley River Joe
Yes Bobby I bred a female to Beanblossom Buck. Buck was a good hound but I believe Gann's Finisher would tree a rougher coon and had a better nose. At least that was the impression from the night I hunted with both of them together.
I have seen Swinney's Diamond Jim tree a lot of coon. He always looked very good every night I went out with him.
One of my favorites was Monroe's Finley River Joe. I made a lot of trips up to John Monroe's and everytime we always took Joe hunting. Some nights we shouldn't have even went out but John was always glad to show Joe. I never went to the woods with Joe that he didn't show you coon eyes. He was a solid coon hound.

Re: Past Stud Dogs
I know the Moderator of this website has hunted with a lot of the "old" dogs that made the foundation of the treeing walker. It would be nice to hear his thoughts on many of them.
I have thought about writing Timothy Ball, James Merchant and some of the other great handlers to get their thoughts. Since alot of them are still studding dogs, I wonder if they would give an honest opinion. In Tim Ball's ads, he always states that his current dog "is the best" he has ever owned. Is this really true?
If Ball had to hunt one dog, in one final 3 hour World Hunt, which dog would he choose? Old Harry, Stylish Harry?
Would Merchant choose Bawlie, Bawling Barney or Bawling Barney II?
I understand Joe House isnt in good health, but would he hunt Chief or Bawlie? Would JC Ellis hunt Spot Lite Sport or old Banjo?
Merchant states in his current ads that old Banjo didnt have a cold nose.
I agree, I would love to hear about the old dogs.
